Jeremy Clarkson hopes to rival pub chain Wetherspoons with chain of boozers

Booze-loving Jeremy Clarkson is hoping to rival pub giant JD Wetherspoon with a chain of boozers, we can reveal.

The star – who is now fighting fit after undergoing heart surgery – opened his first pub The Farmer’s Dog in the Cotswolds earlier this year and pals have dubbed him Jezzaspoon as he’s planning more.

He’s just trademarked the umbrella commercial name Hawkstone Filling Station with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office.

The papers have been filed against “services for providing food and drink; temporary accommodation; bar services; bars; pubs; public house services; hospitality services; information, advisory and consultancy services in relation to all of the aforesaid”.

And punters are told on the website of The Farmer’s Dog: “The Farmer’s Dog is the first Hawkstone filling station. But it’s not just a pub, it’s a whole day experience.”

He’s also planning a range of ready meals, and sandwiches to tie in with his new £1 million boozer. And he’ll call his new enterprise Hops & Chops.

Jezza also wants to knock out homewares like knives, and crockery sets, plus aprons, and towels. He wants to be able to market “prepared meals consisting primarily of meat, fish, poultry or vegetables”, plus a range of other grub like pre-prepared butties, and sauces as well as beer and wines.

A source said: “Jeremy is hungry for success in the pub world and he’s planning a few more boozers up and down the country. And some of his circle have been calling him Jeremey Wetherspoon and Jezzaspoon.”

But the former Top Gear host might struggle to eclipse his equally plaining-speaking pub rival as James has 809 hostelries and 42,000 workers on his payroll.
