Jeremy Clarkson in tears as he opens up on ‘absolutely horrific’ Diddly Squat Farm deaths

Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about the heart-wrenching impact of a series of deaths on his Diddly Squat Farm.

The former Top Gear host, 64, swapped city life for the Cotswolds and started his own farm. Despite enjoying success with his new venture, he’s also faced significant losses.

The car enthusiast shared how the death of several piglets deeply affected him and his partner, Lisa Hogan. In the latest season of Clarkson’s Farm, Jeremy and Lisa were left devastated when a group of piglets tragically died under difficult circumstances.

He had hoped to concentrate on pig farming instead of dairy. In forthcoming scenes, the Doncaster-born star is seen caring for his pigs after they gave birth to their first litter of piglets.

However, it soon becomes clear that things aren’t going well for the tiny creatures. During one nighttime scene, Jeremy can be heard saying: “One of them is as weak as hell.”

“It was just a heartbreaking time,” he confessed. The Doncaster native added: “I’ve never, ever seen Lisa cry – not once, ever since that all started and was unfolding. It was terrible. It is weird, because you love them and you help birth them and you feed and nurture and care for them. I mean, you don’t say, ‘Let’s buy some pigs and hope they die’.”

While deeply saddened by the deaths of his pigs, Clarkson confessed his long-held affection for the animals. “I thought it would be fun to have them, then they all just died in alarming numbers,” he shared, attributing his bond with pigs to the fact that his mother repeatedly gifted him pig toys for Christmases and birthdays until he stepped into his twenties.

The TV personality continued: “It was absolutely horrific at the time, and we had another calamity with them just the other day, but by and large they’re now going OK. We’re getting more robust now, though – we’re a bit stronger at dealing with it.”

In a recent chat with The Times, Jeremy revealed: “A cow has one calf, whereas the last bout of births we had, one of our pigs had fourteen piglets”.

Jeremy further described the financial gain and emotional toll, saying, “That’s a lot of money. I reckoned the pigs would provide something that’s sadly lacking in farming today: a bit of genuine happiness. It was almost unbelievably sad, we had a catastrophically high level of deaths. The piglets were sadly accidentally crushed by their mothers while some died of natural causes in infancy.”
