Jermaine Jenas hid ‘obsession’ from wife whilst at The One Show before BBC axe

Former footballer Jermaine Jenas confessed to keeping an “obsession” from his wife.

The TV presenter has been married to ex-model Ellie Penforld since 2011. The couple share two daughters together Geneva and Olivia and a son Jacob.

This week, the pundit had his contract terminated with the BBC following allegations of inappropriate behaviour. The Mirror previously revealed the 41-year-old TV presenter, who hosted The One Show and regularly appeared on Match of the Day, was fired over claims of unsolicited inappropriate messages involving a female employee.

The broadcaster confessed he has always been obsessed with shoes and admitted to owning 750 pairs of trainers at one point. His passion for footwear got so big that the presenter was having shoes delivered to the TV studio to keep it hidden from his wife.

He opened up about his collection while filming a documentary about the world’s most expensive trainers. Jermaine confessed: “At one point I was probably around the 750 pairs mark but I’m now down to about 250 because I’m trying to be a bit more niche with the ones I collect.

“I’ve collected trainers my whole life, I love my trainers. It’ the one thing I have to sneak around in my house and buy. My wife has now found out I get them delivered to The One Show instead of at home so that ship’s sailed.”

Amongst his expansive collection, one pair which was particularly close to Jermaine’s heart was a pair of neon green and grey Air Max 95s. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, he told us: “They were £110, the first pair of trainers I got when I was a kid.

“I travelled from Nottingham to London to get them with money I’d saved up. I remember that time and how difficult it was to get them and how much they mattered to me.

“I’ve got them in a box and I’ll never wear them again.” Although Jermain went on to become a millionaire thanks to his sporting talent, he came from a humble background.

“When I was younger it was difficult,” he admitted, recalling that he would survive on just four bowls of cereal a day at times. Jermaine went on: “My diet was limited as a kid based on the level of income in the house and how hard my mum was working.”

Formerly considered to be the BBC golden boy, the former Match of the Day pundit now boasts an idyllic life with his doting family in his sprawling £1million home in Hertfordshire. The star once revealed the secret to his marriage was learning to communicate “before the crisis hit”.

He explained: “We are 15 years deep into our relationship and there isn’t anything we won’t talk about whatever the frustration may be. We will have that conversation but that has only happened in time. It actually came from being sick of arguing.”
