Actor John Cleese has said he is spending thousands of pounds each year to fight the signs of ageing.
Fawlty Towers legend John, 84, has admitted he has tried a variety of different ways to keep up his zest for life. However, each trick he tried only provided a temporary solution, meaning his journey to keeping himself young continued.
Now, Cleese has revealed that he is shelling out £17,000 every year for a form of therapy that helps to rebuild weak cells and give him a new lease of life. He added that whilst the cost of the treatment was particularly high, he justified the spend, saying that it is “worth it if you’re buying yourself a few extra years”.

John is undertaking stem-cell therapy, which sees stem cells replace others cells that have been damaged due to old age, chemotherapy or disease. These new cells are able to adapt to their surrounds and function like any other cell, which helps to treat conditions including leukaemia and neuroblastomas.
The actor, also famed for his performances in Monty Python, admitted he has been having the treatment for over 20 years. He said he believed that he did not “look bad” for his age thanks to the treatment, adding that he buys the “highest quality” cells for his treatment from Switzerland.
Speaking to Saga magazine about his youthful endeavours, the actor explained all. “These cells travel around the body and when they discover a place that needs repair, they’ll then change into the cells that you want for repair, so they might become cartilage cells or liver cells.
“So I think that’s why I don’t look bad for 84,” he added. If you’re buying yourself a few extra years, I think it’s worth it.”
John also said that he was turned on to the idea thanks to his fourth wife Jennifer Wade. He also gushed over Wade, with whom he has been married for 12 years, as she helps to find new ways to bring out his young side.
“She’s 30 years younger than I am – she keeps me young,” he told the magazine. “I mean, it is sad to think I shall die some time before she will, but I’m in pretty good health.”
John has been married three times before his current marriage to Jennifer. In previous interviews, he pinned the blame for his lack of security in relationships on his mother, who died at the age of 101.
However, following her death, things have calmed down for the GB News presenter, leading him to believe he still has a lot of time left before he passes away. “I’m not fit, but the way I put it is the doctors don’t yet know what I’m going to die of,” he joked.
