Legendary pop icon swapped life of fame sharing stage with Rihanna to do DIY at home

A legendary chart-topping singer decided to step away from fame in favour of a more laid back life.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Star, John Newman, who is known for hits such as Love Me Again, Losing Sleep and Out Of My Head, discussed how he swapped fame to spend time at home.

When asked how he likes to keep himself grounded, John replied: “I’m genuinely quite grounded as a person anyway. I think there were moments in my career when walking onstage after Rihanna at Coachella with Calvin [Harris] or flying around in a private jet, I’ve been lost but I was in my 20s and I had extreme success.

“Why not live it like it should be lived? Now I think as I grow, like I’m generally a grounded person. I’m obviously a lot more mature and rounded. I still go to the pub and drink a pint with my friends, constantly. I do DIY around the house and I take my daughter out all the time, live a pretty normal life to be honest. That’s the way I’d like to keep it as well.”

Newman has been vocal about his mental health in the past and issued some advice for any of his fans who may be going through the same struggles. John explained: “When I experience a low day, I walk away from it because like there’s an old song with a line: ‘What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours’ and I think it’s true.”

The singer prefers to “walk away and try to find some cold water, meditate or take a walk”. He also loves to “do something different” and use his time to “create” art.

“Walk away from the situation and you’ll find new air in it, that’s what I do and it works every time,” confessed Newman. In his personal life, the chart-topping singer admitted that his biggest sources of inspiration are the people “around him”.

“I want to make them proud constantly. I want to make my family proud, my wife, but I think I’ve got to say my daughter is probably my biggest inspiration. I don’t even need to say it in words, anyone that has a child will know what I mean straight away when I say that.”

John’s loved ones “drive him on constantly” and his wife and daughter are “the biggest inspiration he could ever ask for”
