Liam Payne fans are petitioning for a permanent sculpture of the singer.
Following his untimely death, One Direction fans are rallying behind Liam Payne calling for a lasting tribute to be established in his memory. After the heartbreaking news of Payne’s passing, Argentine police sources confirmed that the singer’s body was set to be returned to his grieving family, who managed to transport the late star’s remains back to the UK on Monday, November 4.
Fans are preparing for a final farewell to take place this week in Payne’s hometown of Wolverhampton, with an influx of tributes already seen outside St. Peter’s Collegiate Church on Tuesday, where flowers and handwritten notes have been placed next to the Lady Wulfrun statue.

Locals in Wolverhampton, just a short distance from Birmingham, had previously honoured Payne with a candlelit vigil at his former school St Peter’s Collegiate Academy, but are now requesting a more enduring memorial. As of Tuesday November 5, a petition urging the council to consider erecting a permanent monument in the West Midlands has garnered 4,654 signatures.
Their appeal page states: “The recent passing of Liam Payne has touched the hearts of many, not just the unbreakable community of One Direction fans, but people worldwide. As individuals who have been profoundly impacted by the loss of this amazing talent, we ask for a permanent structure or mural to be erected in Wolverhampton in his honour.”
Another petition on Change.org also requested a “global memorial” in Liam’s honour to “unite One Direction fans. Liam Payne was on holiday in Buenos Aires, Argentina when he fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel.
Police, who had been summoned over reports of a man acting aggressively in the hotel on the afternoon of October 16, arrived on the scene with firefighters and ambulances, all of which were seen outside the venue. The singer’s body was found in an internal patio of the hotel and a partial autopsy revealed that he had multiple substances in his system at the time of his death, including “pink cocaine” – a mix of several substances such as methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA and others – cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack.
In a press release The Argentina National Prosecutor’s Office shared more details of the autopsy, stating Liam had died of “polytrauma and internal and external bleeding” he sustained after falling from the balcony. Forensic experts found 25 injuries “compatible with those produced by a fall from height. ”
The family of Liam released a heart-wrenching statement following his tragic passing, saying: “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.”
