The ITV star revealed she’s loving life stateside, saying: “I find life here [in the US] so accessible; I feel like a different person, more free and less disabled.” She also added: “I also wanted to update you on the latest with Loose Women. While I had an incredible time working there (it was a dream platform for a disabled woman with a lot to say), the time has come to part ways.

“I am very proud to have been part of their groundbreaking campaigns such as ‘Body Stories’ – which celebrated body diversity & confidence – ‘Facing It Together’ – a campaign about domestic abuse – & of curse, my baby, ‘Right on Flights’. which was born on the show last year (Sally, thank you). I hope many more disabled and underrepresented women get the chance to be on the panel to help educate and inform.”

Sophie also revealed that she has been working on a new Channel 4 documentary co-produced by US actress Reese Witherspoon’s “game-changing” production company, and added that filming it has been “a real labour of love”. It comes after the TV personality revealed that she has been focusing on her own wellbeing, both mentally and physically.

Writing her memoir Driving Forwards proved to be hugely cathartic, she revealed, and led her to begin a course of trauma therapy. “I have post traumatic stress disorder from all the things that have happened to me,” said the presenter. |And as much as I have coped very well, there are a huge number of issues that I need to work through since my car crash.”

The accident occurred in 2003, when Sophie was just 18 and had picked up her A-level results from school. Driving four friends home in her car, she veered off the road and ended up trapped beneath it, suffering severe injuries that left her paralysed from the chest down. Her friends escaped with minor injuries while Sophie spent months in hospital. She has been a wheelchair user for almost 20 years.
