Love Island stars can dodge the infamous winners ‘curse’ by following six simple steps, sources have revealed.
As the Love Island finale draws near, whispers of a villa curse has bubbled up once again. It’s fair to say that few of the ITV victors achieved the fairy-tale ending they dreamt of when they left the show.
Most winners who have taken home the cash prize have called it quits just months after the dating programme came to an end. As the show completes its 11th series, a trend is evident with several winners often splitting up less than a year after the show.

Now, celebrity PR expert Ed Hopkins – who represents former Islander Trey Norman – has revealed the real reason why these relationships fizzle out when they return to the UK. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, he explained: “Many couples who leave the villa hand-in-hand often find that the real world presents challenges that their island paradise did not.
“From the pressures of newfound fame to navigating life outside of the bubble of the show, numerous winners have called it quits within a few months of the finale.” The reality show guru went on to share six tips that that can help them avoid becoming another victim of the Love Island curse.
Adjust to reality
The transition from the villa to the real world can be very jarring for any star leaving the villa. As the winning couple return to the UK with the eyes of the nation on them, Ed has advised contestants to take some time to adjust to their newfound fame.
He said: “It’s important to take things slow and allow time to adjust to life outside the bubble. This means giving each other space to explore life independently whilst nurturing a relationship.”
Communication is key
After touching down in the UK, the stars will no doubt be overwhelmed by the added attention which can add a strain on even the strongest relationships. Ed insisted that the key to a long and happy relationship is communication.
He explained: “Open communication is the cornerstone of any successful relationship. This is especially true for couples coming off a reality show where public perception can sometimes cloud reality.
“Being honest about feelings, insecurities and expectations is crucial.”
Managing media attention
Islanders will be thrown into the showbiz world upon their return to the UK, and will be swamped with incredible opportunities. But this can compromise relationships and often leave little time to relax.
Ed pointed out the importance of setting boundaries. He told us: “Navigating the world of fame and media scrutiny can be challenging. It’s essential to set boundaries and keep certain aspects of the relationship private.
“Remember that not every moment needs to be shared with the public.”
Prioritise each other
With so many attractive opportunities on offer, it’s hard to remember to find the time for each other. But Ed insists this is crucial for keeping any romance alive.
The PR guru added: “In the world of reality TV, it can be tempting to prioritise public image over the relationship. However, it’s important to remember that the foundation of a strong relationship is built on genuine connection, not on public approval.”
Seek extra support
After appearing on a hugely popular reality show, stars can expect to receive backlash from disgruntled fans online. Because of this it is important to seek extra support when things are getting too much.
Ed pointed out: “Whether it’s from friends, family or professional counsellors, seeking support can help couples navigate the ups and downs of post-show life. Having a strong support system can make a significant difference in maintaining a healthy relationship.
“ITV provides excellent aftercare to all Love Islanders, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and support to handle the pressures that come with life after the show.”
Finding A PR Team
With so many opportunities on offer, Islanders are advised to find a PR team that aligns with their values to help manage their busy schedules. The relationship expert added: “It’s important for the couple to find a manager and public relations team who share their vision and values.
“This team will play a crucial role in shaping their public image and career opportunities. Ensuring that they connect on a personal level and share similar morals is vital, as these professionals will become an integral part of their lives moving forward.”
Although there are plenty of ways that things can go wrong in the first 12 months after leaving the show, Ed has reassured contestants that “there’s no reason contestants can’t defy the odds.” He concluded: “The future for tonight’s winning couple is filled with both promise and uncertainty.
“While the track record of previous winners my cast a shadow, with the right mindset and approach, there’s no reason they can’t defy the odds. By staying grounded, communicating openly and prioritising their relationship, they have the potential to turn their villa romance into a lasting love story.”
Only time will tell if this year’s winners can break the cycle and find their happily ever after.
