Love Island’s Olivia Bowen admits she ‘struggled’ with body confidence after first child

Love Island beauty Olivia Bowen has confessed she struggled with body confidence after welcoming her first child.

The 30-year-old shot to fame after starring in the second series of Love Island in 2016. Heading all the way to the finals with her partner Alex, the pair came a respectable second place after Cara De La Hoyde & Nathan Massey were crowned winners that year.

Although they didn’t win the ITV show, Olivia and Alex’s relationship continued to blossom and the pair later tied the knot in 2018. The happy couple then welcomed their son Abel in June 2022.

Talking exclusively to Daily Star, she said: “Body confidence I think is such an up and down thing. I think after Abel I really reallyy struggled.

“I think because I was quite confident in my body beforehand, I think having a baby I just sometimes don’t recognise myself. Like me and Alex have had lots of chats about it and I try and tell myself ‘I’m so proud of my body’.

“But you know we’re all human and we struggle from time to time. I just think the society that I grew up in, like the 2000s it was all about being skinny.

“If you look back at some of the shows that were on and things that were said in magazines it was just crazy how they treated women’s bodies and I think that’s always gonna be in the back of mind. But for me I just try and put that positive foot forward on Instagram and things.

“I don’t want to make anyone else feel like that. I want people to try and be happy and confident but yeah it’s difficult sometimes for any woman.”

When asked what helps her to gain confidence, she said: “I think wearing things I really love.” She added: “I think you have to do what makes you happy and not fall into that trend following.”

“And going to the gym, now it’s really a mental thing for me. I don’t go for a few weeks I feel awful and then I go once and I think I’ve lost a stone and I look great!”
