Margot Robbie ‘titillated’ by ‘semen slurping’ scene in her ‘most depraved’ 2023 film

Margot Robbie “wasn’t shocked” by a grisly bathtub scene in one of the raunchiest films of 2023.

The Barbie star helped to produce Emerald Fennell’s movie Saltburn, starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi. Even reading the script for the first time, nothing was enough to take Margot aback, as she’s a seasoned pro.

That includes one scene in which Keoghan’s character Oliver Quick watches his pal Felix Catton (Elordi) pleasure himself in the bathtub. When he’s done and the water is draining, Oliver quickly heads over to rub his face in the bathwater and other… bodily fluids draining down the plughole. He then slurps them right up – including Felix’s semen.

Speaking to Variety about her hand in the movie, Margot explained: “It didn’t feel that shocking in the script, because Emerald immerses you into a world so quickly. She’s so masterful at tone and plot; she gets you into it so quickly — you’re just immediately like, ‘I’m in this world.’

“So by the time you get to something like the bathtub scene, she’s primed you for it. She’s got you. You’re, like, picking at a scab; you’re like, ‘I can’t help myself.’ Or like popping a pimple: ‘I know I shouldn’t squeeze but I’m gonna.’”

Margot said she felt “disgusted” by parts of the film – but was equally “titillated”, and “shocked” at “finding that depravity” in herself. She explained: “She gets in your brain and she kind of taps into the most depraved parts of it, so that you’re complicit in the story. That’s the water-cooler moment — the thing that people are talking about two weeks afterwards.”

Oliver star Barry Keoghan confessed his own feelings at getting that tub scene just right. He told Variety that he wanted to “take it to a new level”, explaining: “That’s why I made the choice to rub my face along the plug hole and not slurp it straight away.”

He ad-libbed the grave scene, which wasn’t originally in the script, telling Entertainment Weekly: “he plants seeds, Emerald, you know what I mean? She knows that they’re going to grow, these seeds, especially when she plants them with me. But it is a testament to Emerald and having that idea and me meeting it with, to be honest, no questions. I was totally on board for it.

“For me, it wasn’t about f**king the grave, it was more about: I don’t know what to do with this obsession; it’s making me confused and making me un-human in a way. It was a total discovery for him, I think. And it was sad. It was very, very sad.”

Producer Margot isn’t the only celeb entranced by the film. Gladiators star Ulrika Jonsson confessed the film “blew her mind”, writing on Instagram: “Saltburn took my breath away, blew my mind. Outstanding cast. Cinematography second-to-none.”
