Martin Freeman has shared how he really feels about former partner Amanda Abbington.
Abbington, 50, has been at the centre of the ongoing BBC probe into Strictly Come Dancing after she came forward with allegations of bullying and misconduct in rehearsals. She also branded professional partner Giovanni Pernice ‘s behaviour in the studio as “abusive, cruel and “mean”.
Giovanni has strongly denied all the allegations being made against him, and has urged the public to ‘ignore’ Amanda’s claims. A friend close to the Italian star went on to say that his legal team have discovered evidence that will definitively “clear his name”, and prove that Amanda’s claims are not the whole truth.

Since the Sherlock actress’ claims came to the fore, Abbington has been inundated with hate comments and abuse from online trolls. She has also had threats to her and her family’s lives, and has described the barrage of hated as “brutal and unforgiving”.
The star has gone through tough periods in her life where her mental health has taken a toll. One of these periods was the painful split she suffered from her former long-term beau Martin Freeman – which deeply affected her and left her with suicidal thoughts.
Amanda and Martin were together for a total of 16 years before the pair decided to go their separate ways. Freeman, who is best known for his roles in Sherlock, Love Actually and The Hobbit had kept his mouth shut on the situation for quite some time – but he admitted: “I’ll always love Amanda”.
It was revealed that Amanda and Martin first met on the set of the 2000 film Men Only and the blooming relationship began from there. Since then, the pair have brought two children into the world – Joe and Grace, both of which the pair are doting parents to.
However, Martin’s success began to take a toll on the relationship, with Freeman’s huge success in America contributing to the duo’s eventual breakup. Despite the devastating split for both Amanda and Martin, both had been keen to stress that there are no hard feelings between the two of them.
Speaking in an interview with the Financial Times in 2022, Martin broke his silence on the matter, saying: “I’m not with Amanda anymore. It’s very, very amicable — I’ll always love Amanda.”
At the time of the interview, Martin was said to be dating French actress Rachel Mariam, though their relationship has not been publicly confirmed. Amanda herself moved on from Martin, going on to fall in love with stuntman Jonathan Goodwin after they got to know each other through Twitter.
Since then, Jonathan and Amanda’s love has blossomed even further, with Abbington going on to provide vital support for her partner after he was rendered paraplegic due to a stunt gone wrong. This, however, has not stopped the pair from moving on in their relationship and the pair have been happily engaged to this day.
