Disgraced Masterchef host Gregg Wallace could cash in on his scandal after sports clubs began to badger his reps with speaking requests following the BBC probe into his alleged inappropriate behaviour
Shamed telly star Gregg Wallace hopes to resurrect his career as a £15,000 a time after dinner speaker, we can reveal.
He’ll cash in on the scandal by speaking about his fall from grace to sympathetic audiences. Booking agents for top speaking firms with him on their books have been inundated with inquiries from sports clubs for Gregg to speak after he was stood down from MasterChef over inappropriate conduct towards women.
Gregg is awaiting the results of a probe into his behaviour and if he’s found to have been guilty of lewd actions then his £400,000 a year career on the box is over. He’s also trying to drum up trade for his fitness and diet website.
Last week he slashed £40 off an annual subscription to his £12-a-month GreggWallace. Health site. He launched the firm after winning his own battle with the flab.
And the lucrative speaking circuit where he commands fees of £10,000 to £15,000 – could prove a financial lifeline.
A source at one leading firm told us: “We have had a few emails from people wanting to book Gregg despite the trouble he’s in. You are talking about your rugby and football clubs who all know he’s a massive sports fan and they also don’t think he’s done anything wrong.
“Gregg is clearly a colourful character and the after-dinner circuit could be his best chance of making any real money again.”
Speaking bureau NMP.Live says of him: “Gregg Wallace is a fruit and vegetable expert, writer, media personality and former greengrocer. He is probably best known for co-presenting MasterChef, Celebrity MasterChef and MasterChef: The Professionals on BBC 2 and BBC1 alongside John Torode.”
Gregg rakes in a fortune from his telly and media work.
Accounts for his Lobster Enterprises Ltd outfit – where cash from his TV work is collected – show he earned £400,000 in the last financial year.
The broadcaster and writer, who used to be 16½st, decided to overhaul his life after admitting he was drinking booze most days and frequently ordering takeaways.
