Matthew Perry’s will has set conspiracy theories alight by denying inheritance to children the Friends star never actually had.
The Chandler Bing star was 54 when he died after drowning in his hot tub last October. The star never married and never welcomed any children – so it was a mystery who his massive fortune would be left to. In the end, his estate was shared between his living family.
His mum Suzanne Morrison and father John Perry were listed as beneficiaries on the document, along with his half-sister Caitlin Morrison and his ex-girlfriend Rachel Dunn. But the will mysteriously notes that if Matthew were to ever welcome children, nothing would go to them and they’d have no access to his estate.

That means any potential children to crawl out of the woodwork – legitimate or not – would have no claim to the $1,030,000 worth of property Perry owned, which, according to Page Six, is “not limited to jewellery, furniture and furnishings, works of art and automobiles”.
There is a good explanation to the addendum, aside from dealing with any potential inheritance battles. The star drafted his will 15 years ago, back in 2009. He named it the Alvy Singer Living Trust, referencing the main character from Annie Hall.
Perry would have been 40 years old at the time, and possibly considering welcoming children in the future. Though he never married, the inclusion of his ex Rachel Dunn was a choice made because the star imagined welcoming a family with her.
In his 2022 memoir, he admitted: “I often think if I’d asked, now we’d have two kids and a house with no view, who knows — I wouldn’t need the view because I’d have her to look at; the kids, too.” It’s possible he would have changed his will to include any potential children once they were born.
Despite never tying the knot, Perry had a string of A-lister partners, and even described a brief “make-out session in a closet” with Gwyneth Paltrow. He dated Julia Roberts for a few months while filming Friends, and even had a short-lived romance with his character’s crush Yasmine Bleeth.

Matthew’s longest relationship was with Mean Girls star Lizzy Caplan, who he dated for six years. But by 2012 they’d called it quits, and Perry went on to date literary manager Molly Hurwitz from 2018 until 2020. He even popped the question, admitting to People magazine: “I decided to get engaged. Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time.”
Their engagement was called off six months later, and Perry said he “wished Molly the best” after their split.
