Max George to undergo emergency surgery as The Wanted star gives health update

The Wanted singer Max George has updated fans on his health after revealing he was in hospital and may need a pacemaker to treat a ‘block in the lower part of his heart’

The Wanted’s Max George has revealed to his fans that he’s facing emergency heart surgery. The pop hunk, aged 36, opened up about the dramatic turn in his health just weeks before Christmas, sharing that he could be spending the festive season in hospital.

Taking to Instagram, Max has been keeping his followers in the loop with his condition, sharing a video from his hospital bed as he keeps a watchful eye on his heart rate. He revealed last week the shocking news that he might require a pacemaker due to an issue with the “lower part of his heart”.

In a story on his page, he detailed his medical scare, explaining he’s suffering from a ‘block’ in his heart, which is causing him serious trouble. Further tests have been ongoing.

His exact words included dire news wrapped in optimism: “Had a little day trip today. Full CT scan on my heart. Not something I’d choose to do again! As I mentioned yesterday, I have a 2:1 block in my heart. Unfortunately my heart rate hasn’t picked up at all in almost a week.”, reports the Mirror.

“Because of this, we don’t have too much time to wait so it looks like I’m going to be in surgery way quicker than the doctors first thought. I may even be home for Christmas! Still a pretty scary time right now and the last few nights have been really rough, but I wanted to say that I’m absolutely humbled by all your messages of support.”

Familiar faces and unfamiliar ones have rallied around. It has lifted my spirits, and my family is grateful for the kindness shown to them.

Max’s mum had previously spoken about what happened, saying: “Max is in the hospital right now and he’s being very well taken care of. I took him to AandE this week where he was looked at.”

“He is in the best place he can possibly be right now. He’s very grateful for all the well-wishes from his fans and he’s got all his friends and family around him too. They have done some tests to see what the best management will be going forward,” she added. When Max first shared his health scare on Thursday, he said: “Yesterday I felt really unwell and was taken into hospital.

“Unfortunately after some tests they’ve found that I have some issues with my heart. I have a lot more tests to determine the extent of the problems and what surgery I will need to get me back on my feet. It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks / months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned! But, as always, I’m surrounded with love and support by my wonderful partner Maisie, her family, my family and friends.. and I’m 100% in the best place.”
