Naga Munchetty makes baby confession as co-star demands ‘change the subject’

Naga Munchetty made a surprising confession about babies on BBC Breakfast.

Feeling awkward about the admission on Friday (March 22), her co-host Charlie Stayt demanded for her to quickly “change the subject”. The BBC 5-Live presenter brought up research which found that babies smell like flowers.

Their chat delved into the smells of babies and teenage body odour but it all proved to be too much for Charlie, who asked his co-star to talk about something else. Naga said: “I’m always fascinated by how scientists do their business and research.

“So, they were looking into how people smell, especially how young people and teenagers smell. Charlie looked puzzled as Naga went on: “To do this experiment, they had to study sweat from cotton wool pads that had been sewn into the armpits of clothes and worn at night by 36 people.”

Naga added: “And what they found – if you’re trying to get a teenager out of bed right now – just think about their hormones, because this affects it. When you go into their bedroom and it’s a bit smelly, it’s because teenagers will smell more of wee, goat’s cheese, peppers and wax.”

After listing the stinky items, Naga added: “This is after they go through puberty.” The study Naga had been quoting compared the smell of teenagers to babies under the age of three.

It was suggested that the aroma of small toddler could be likened to flowers and soap. At this point, the BBC star shared a common thought about how babies smell.

Naga cheekily asked Charlie: “You know how toddlers smell nicer?,” and added: “Babies smell nice, don’t they?” reports the Express.

She then went on to share some cool science stuff about why this happens. But Charlie wasn’t as curious but did ask: “And who did that research?”

Naga told him: “This was done by scientists at the aroma and smell research facility at the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg. Charlie couldn’t help but giggle when Naga said: “They were analysed through the laboratories and professional smellers.”

He joked: “That’s quite a job – what are you going to do today at work?” Naga laughed and said: “Smelling cotton pads under the armpits of teenagers – joy!”

Charlie made a face and said: “Mmm there’s a thought,” not looking too happy, and quickly said: “Shall we change the subject?”

BBC Breakfast airs every morning from 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
