Netflix star dies aged 41 following heart attack on beach as tributes pour in

Netflix star Julian Ortega has tragically passed away on a beach in Spain.

The Elite actor, 41, was enjoying time on the sand when he was suddenly struck by a heart attack. Beachgoers immediately called for medical help.

Despite valiant efforts by paramedics, who battled for up to 30 minutes with a defibrillator at their disposal, they couldn’t save the star’s life in the devastating event.

This sorrowful scene occurred beneath the sun-soaked beach bar at Zahora Beach in Barbate, not far from Marbella, on Sunday evening. Madrid-born Julian had made a name for himself with roles in Caronte (2020), Elite (2018), and Nunc Et in Hora (2010), and had become a familiar face on Spanish TV screens with appearances in hit shows like Cristo Rey, Elite, and Velvet.

The loss of Julian was confirmed by Spain’s national union of actors and actresses in a heartfelt statement: “From the Union de Actores y Actrices, we send our most sincere condolences to the actor’s family and friends.”

Elite, the Netflix sensation set in a posh high school, has been a global success story, with its first season alone captivating over 20 million Netflix accounts within the initial month of release.

Julian graced six episodes of Elite, portraying the manager of the beer and burger spot La Cabana, as NeedToKnow reported. The entertainment world, including fellow actors, is mourning the loss of this talent, son to actress Gloria Munoz and actor Jose Antonio Ortega.

Following the announcement of his death, fellow actors and fans have been sharing their tributes to the late actor. Fernando Tejero, a Goya Award-winning actor, penned: “Life can be so cruel sometimes. I’m heartbroken, dear friend. You were such a great actor and an even better person, Julian Ortega. Fly high,” while actress Virginia Mataix referred to this, stating on X “A big hug to Gloria Munoz. I’m so sorry.”

Actress Silvia Marso also expressed her grief, saying: “He was an incredible actor and a colleague who was as genuine, honest, and kind as his parents. I can’t even begin to imagine how his parents and everyone who knew him in the industry must be feeling. It’s just awful. I can’t wrap my head around it. I’m filled with absolute sadness.”
