Netflix’s new project promises some seriously risqué moments.
The Decameron is set in the country side back in mediaeval Italy and features some rather raunchy scenes. In the trailer, one of the characters admits to “having sinful thoughts” and The Hollywood Reporter compared it to “Love Island but taking place in the hills of Tuscany in 1348”.

Netflix’s The Decameron promises wine-soaked sex scenes, people begin to die and the storyline is thrown into chaos as the characters fight for survival. The eight-part series was released on 25 July and stars Sex Education’s Tanya Reynolds, Tony Hale, Zosia Mamet, Tanya Reynolds and many more in this ensemble cast.
Down in the comment section for The Decameron’s YouTube trailer, fans shared their thoughts on the project with one writing: “So, it’s mostly The White Lotus but set in the 14th century.” Another jokingly added that the trailer “killed them for real” before adding a laughing face emoji.
“Lily Iglehart in a period drama and not with aliens….am here for it,” gushed another streamer with a slew of heart-eyed emojis to follow. Another Netflix buff said that the trailer has “Yorgos Lanthimos levels of chaos and absurdity,” which means the project “might be a hit or miss.”
Over on X/Twitter, fans were equally as excited and raced to gush over the period drama: “Which mediaevalists got rip-snorting blitzed or high and convinced Netflix to make The Decameron? Bless you. It’s so dumb, I love it.” Others said the show “looks wicked” and that the story was “wild”.
The Decameron is based on a book of the same name, which is a collection of short stories by 14th century author Giovanni Boccaccio. It is structured as a frame story with 100 tales told by seven women and three men as they sheltered outside of Florence to avoid the Black Death.
Within The Decameron, the stories touch upon the tragic and the saucy with quips of practical jokes and valuable life lessons.
