Oasis star Liam Gallagher planning pool at his £4m mansion but there’s one big problem

Oasis star Liam Gallagher is splashing out a fortune for a pool at his house but he can’t swim.

The rock and roll legend had just been granted planning permission to create the leisure suite at his north London mansion.

But the frontman might need to take a few lessons so he can properly enjoy ploughing up and down his 24ft pool.

He confessed to not being able to master the water while chatting with mum Peggy – a keen swimmer – and son Gene on Celebrity Gogglebox.

Liam told Peggy: “You are the only one out of us lot that can swim. Me, Noel and Paul can’t swim.”

Gene added: “You can swim. I’ve seen you. It’s just that you can’t get your head up. You just go underwater.”

And Liam added: “I can do half a width. I wish I could swim. I struggle when it goes deeper and that. That’s when I start flapping around like some mad salmon, like a crazy salmon and I’ve got to go back. I struggle having a shower.”

Peggy revealed she was a regular visitor to her local pool and said she did 20 widths at a time.

He told his mum of her love of swimming: “Good for you. That’s grand. I’m jealous, man.”

Liam had plans for his new swimming pool approved at his £4million home despite his neighbours trying to block the build.

The singer, 51, upset local residents after seeking permission to install a pool, plus high-security wall and gates, at his home in well-healed Highgate.

The Highgate Society complained the rocker’s application would “create a most unfortunate precedent” and claimed they could be “seriously affected by any ground water diversion”.

But now the Britpop legend was granted planning permission to install the new pool by Haringey Council.

Liam has been given the green light to go ahead with the garden project, which will also include a patio, pool plant and air source heat pump.

The singer’s roughly 24ft by 12ft swimming pool will come with a cover system and feature “bullnosed edge” detail, with “buff natural stone steps”, according to plans submitted to the council.
