It’s been over 25 years since the first book in the series was released, ‘Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone’, which sent readers wild all over the world. In 2001, the first film was also rolled out in cinemas, with the lead being taken on by Daniel Radcliffe.

According to the books, Harry was born on July 31, 1980, which would make him 44 this year. This coincides with author J K Rowling’s birthday, who is also born on July 31, however, she is 59 years old.

The author could have also had a role in the films – however, she reportedly turned this opportunity down. The writer was reportedly offered the part of Harry’s mum Lily Potter, but she was afraid he would “mess” things up.

She apparently thought wasn’t “cut out to be an actress” and feared she’d “mess up somehow”. Instead, the role of the heroic parent was given to Geraldine Somerville.

JK Rowling had insisted that all the film’s cast were British, meaning some celebrities were gutted to not get a part. Late Hollywood legend Robin Williams was keen on joining the wizarding world cast but was rejected due to being American.

Potter casting director Janet Hirshenson revealed Robin had contacted director Chris Columbus “because he really wanted to be in the movie.” She told Huffington Post at the time: “But it was a British-only edict. And once he said no to Robin, he wasn’t going to say yes to anybody else, that’s for sure. It couldn’t be.”
