Pop icons Steps want movie for hit sexuality, friendship and adoption musical

Steps are planning to make a movie version of their new musical. Here & Now has had rave reviews since its opening night in Birmingham last week.

And if the show becomes a smash hit, they’re hoping it’ll be made into a film. Claire Richards said: “A film version of the show is something we will strive towards.”

Faye Tozer added: “Watch this space.” Here & Now follows a group of colleagues who work together at a supermarket. Steps announced they were putting together a musical in January earlier this year.

Its storylines are about relationship troubles, sexuality, friendship and adoption. Steps reckon it would be perfect for a film – just like Abba musical Mamma Mia! was in 2008.

Claire said: “This show 100% lends itself to being a film. It would be a great British movie.

“It’s set in a classic British location and has great humour.”

Faye added: “The comedy in the show is very grounded and heartfelt and relatable.

Lisa Scott-Lee added: “To see the show become a film would be incredible.”

The show is running at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham until Saturday before returning for a UK tour next August.
