Ralf Little hints at next role after surprise exit from BBC’s Death In Paradise

Ralf Little has given fans an idea of what he could be starring in next after making a surprise exit from Death in Paradise.

Little, 44, shocked fans and his co-stars alike when he left the BBC comedy drama after four years on the show. Taking on the role of Detective Inspector Neville Parker, he admitted it was a sad but necessary moment for his career.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Little explained that he made the decision to quit the show last month, stunning producers and his co-stars. The BBC only confirmed that Ralf had left the show once the finale of the most recent season had come to an end.

But now with a clear schedule, Ralf explained that he is now ready to take on a whole new challenge. He also stated that he wants to change how people see him as an actor.

Speaking to the Big Issue magazine, he explained: “I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and do more things that scare me or that I maybe feel a bit intimidated by. And I’d love to play a villain. It would be so nice to just play someone horrible – I’ve spent my whole career playing nice guys; I want to surprise myself.”

When asked about his public perception, he admitted he was “welcome” to the comparisons viewers made between him and his Death in Paradise character. However, he urged producers to help him in his “evolution” of acting as he opens himself up to new roles.

“It’s the next step of my life,” he explained. “I was a kid when I did The Royle Family – I’m a middle-aged man now.”

Neville’s departure came after BBC bosses confirmed that a spin-off show from the hit programme was in the works. Not only that, but producers also explained that the show would be breaking new ground as it would give a female detective the leading role.

Titled Return to Paradise, the show is set in the sun-kissed Australian beachside and will follow detective Mackenzie Clarke, played by Anna Samson. After working with the Metropolitan Police for years, Clarke is accused of evidence tampering which prompts her to return Down Under.

Anna is no stranger to the Aussie climate, however, as the British-born actress was a prominent star of Home and Away. She also has a star of the hit HBO show Leftovers, which made waves Stateside.

BBC bosses have confirmed that show will have a “distinct Australian flavour” to it whilst also continuing to honour the original series. Samson will also then join the cast of actors to have been the lead actor for the franchise, including Father Ted legend Ardal O’Hanlon and Hollywood star Ben Miller.
