He has dubbed her his “guardian angel” in a poignant message. The star of ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ and ‘Charmed’, Shannen Doherty, sadly passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, after a valiant near-decade-long fight with cancer at the tender age of 53.
Ashley, the actor and funnyman son of Hollywood’s George Hamilton, who had a brief five-month marriage to Shannen back in the ’90s, poured out his thanks for her unwavering support during some of his toughest moments.

He confessed that he had been a distant observer of Shannen’s tough battle with cancer, expressing regret for not reaching out post-diagnosis.
In an exclusive chat with TMZ, he revealed: “Shannen was not only my wife, she was my guardian angel. Even though things don’t always work out the way we hope they will, she stood by my side during some of my darkest times.”
He continued, saying: “My love and admiration for her lasted far longer than our short-lived marriage.” Ashley, who wed Shannen in a whirlwind romance in 1993 only to part ways six months later, praised the actress for her incredible courage in the face of her illness.
In an emotional tribute, he revealed: “Watching her battle that horrific disease with such stoicism was inspiring to many, but even more so to me since I am a cancer survivor. The world lost a free-spirited soul and my heart aches for her and for all those who loved her. May she rest in peace.”
Shannen’s death was announced by her publicist Leslie Sloane last weekend. Leslie expressed the sorrowful news to People magazine, stating: “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.”
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
Shannen first started her fight with breast cancer back in 2015 and had been ‘cancer-free’ since 2017. However, the unforgiving disease came back three years later, tragically spreading to her bones and brain, which she bravely shared with the world in 2023.
