Sharon Osbourne ‘raked in eye-watering £7k per minute’ for Celebrity Big Brother stint

Sharon Osbourne was reportedly paid almost a staggering £7,000 for every minute of screen time while appearing on Celebrity Big Brother.

The 71-year-old TV icon was the first star to step foot in the infamous house and proved to be a hit amongst her fellow co-stars and viewers alike. But despite her huge payout, Sharon was only a temporary “celeb lodger’ on the show with her own separate bathroom and bedroom.

In addition to this, Sharon was allowed to leave the process early, which left some fans rather upset by her premature departure. According to previous reports, ITV couldn’t match the huge fee Sharon requested to take part in the show, but sources claimed that she would still be paid a whopping £100,000 per day.

On Tuesday (March 12), Sharon said her goodbyes to her fellow housemates after living in the house for nine days. But every second of Sharon on screen meant broadcaster ITV had to splash the cash.

The Daily Mail report that during the series’ first nine episodes, which came to a total of nearly eight hours, Sharon appeared on screen for a total of two hours and 13 minutes. However, this works out to be an incredible £6,767 per minute and includes the X Factor star’s entrance, exit and interview on spin-off Late and Live.

Although it was first heavily reported that Sharon would only be living in the Celebrity Big Brother house for five days, she ended up staying for an additional four. However, the music mogul was money well spent as she was often at the centre of many house twists, and making global headlines with her brutal views of other well-known faces in the house.

Before she departed from the house, Sharon was left emotional when Big Brother treated the house to a farewell tea party. Seeing the display of cake and tea on the table, a delighted Sharon said: “My favourites! Scones, jam, cream! This is so lovely.”

She later said: “I’ve had a great time! Met new friends and I’m gonna watch you all on your paths… And may all your dreams come true.”

She previously revealed that she could only stay on the ITV series for a short period, as she wanted to return to her husband Ozzy Osbourne, 75, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019. She said: “I don’t want to stay away from Ozzy for too long. We’re incredibly close as a family.”

Celebrity Big Brother airs Sunday to Friday on ITV1, STV and ITVX at 9pm
