People are only just realising the grim truth that a gruesome dead creature used in the Star Wars franchise was real.
When we say real we mean real animals put together to make a whole new beast that wouldn’t look out of place in serial killer Ed Gein’s house of horrors. The macabre entity appeared in Return of the Jedi, and was used as bait to attract Chewbacca and the Ewoks into a trap.
And what’s more it is a common practice used by taxidermists as a ‘joke’, with one just happening to make its way into the George Lucas flick. Netizens were quick to comment once the revelation was made, with a healthy mixture of shock and complete apathy.

The Reddit user who stumbled across the find wrote: “Just noticed the dead animal in the ewok net trap from ‘return of the Jedi’ was one of those ‘deer butt faces’.”
One Reddit responder wrote: “Holy s**t! I was watching Return of the Jedi just yesterday and actually noticed this.”
Another said: “How does one begin even to LOOK for something like this. And thanks for that; I don’t have enough eye bleach to not see this in my head anymore.”
While a third queried: “Are you telling me that some major Hollywood studio paid some guy to design a butt plug for deers with teeth on it?”
And a fourth wondered: “Hold on… What is this? I’ve never heard of “deer butt face”. Is it some kind of old taxidermist joke, like the jackalope?”
One user responded to the question: “Yea that is a white tail deer ass they just add teeth too make it look like an animal face.”
And finally one user came to the rescue, revealing it is actually a thing: “This is a really common thing for taxidermists to do as a joke. they probably just bought one somewhere.”
And a quick Google search does indeed reveal a vast array of ‘jokes’ if you type in ‘taxidermy deer butt’. Although you may want to check who’s around when you search, and delete your browser history straight away.
