Stormzy’s family ‘issue urgent warning’ about future girlfriends after Maya Jama split

Stormzy’s family have reportedly issued a warning after the rapper broke up with Maya Jama.

The Own It hitmaker and the Love Island presenter announced their separation last week after they packed on the PDA at Glastonbury Festival and the British Grand Prix. Now that the power couple have gone their separate ways, it is understood the musician’s loved ones have warned him about “money-grabbers.”

Speaking to The Sun on Saturday (July 20), and insider explained: “Maya was an independent woman and that was one of the things he loved about her. Now his family are worried about money-grabbers who are only after his cash.

“They loved Maya and are sad to see her go, but are hopeful that he dates a professional woman with her own cash and not a gold-digger. He has been advised to sign a watertight prenup when he gets married – using the break-up with Maya as an example of how even the best relationships can end.

“He loved Maya because she was a breadwinner in her own right – she loved gifts but could afford to treat herself.” The Daily Star has contacted Stormzy’s representatives for a comment.

Despite the couple looking loved up at the British Grand Prix earlier this month, the pair decided to part ways last Wednesday (July 17) . Just days after they packed on the PDA at Silverstone, it has come to light that the couple were on rocky ground.

The couple released a joint statement announcing their separation at the time. It read: “We’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a break-up.

“But for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.

“We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart. We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits,” it adds.

“We were 21 and 20 when we first met-both at the beginning of our careers-and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning. We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we’ve had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The Brits or something, don’t cause a fuss, we are dawgs!)”.

The statement concluded: “We’re kindly asking for the grace to let both of us keep it moving and not be bothered about it (we highly doubt this’ll work, but we’re still kindly asking anyway. Love you guys and thank you for all the love you’ve showered us with, it’s been beautiful,” Maya ended the post which was signed “MJ and Mike”.

Days after she announced the news, Maya was joined on the Love Island spin-off show Aftersun by her mum Sadie. Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – fans praised the star’s mum for her ageless beauty.

One user penned: “”Maya Jamas mum is GORG!” Another added: “Maya, THAT’S MUM? Wow.” A third persons said: “Wow, Maya’s mum, it makes sense.”
