Strictly Come Dancing icon Gorka Márquez broke down in tears as he addressed how being a dancing professional tears him away from his family.
Gorka, 33, is set for another year of fun and frolics on the dance floor as he is confirmed to be participating in this year’s edition of the BBC show. The star is also a proud dad to two beautiful children as he and fiancée Gemma Atkinson work hard to provide for their family.
But in a new show airing on the W channel, the happy couple have admitted that there are times when they do struggle due to the nature of their work. In particular, Gorka admitted he finds it incredibly hard to be away from his fiancée and children whilst he works at Strictly.

In a clip shared to their social media accounts, Gorka welled up as he reflected on the work he has put in to look after his family. The series, titled Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens, will look at how Márquez and Atkinson carry on with their lives, despite their hectic schedule.
For Gorka, Strictly is not the only show that takes up time in his busy life. As well as taking part in the UK edition of the show, Gorka also acts as a judge for Bailando con las Estrellas – the Spanish version of the show.
Reflecting on how much strain it puts on him, Gorka sobbed as he explained: “I was looking at the schedule and I’m not gonna be home at least for like five weeks. I hate being away.”
He continued: “I just feel… not guilty, but you know sometimes I go, ‘Oh I’m very tired,’ and then Gemma is like, ‘Well you know I’ve been working the radio, doing other jobs and the two kids,’ you know. I just feel sorry that I’m not there helping.”
Gorka then gushed over the love of his life Gemma, 39, describing her as “the force of this house”. He also paid tribute to her amazing trust in him, saying that he could not do half the things he would if it had not been for her.
“It’s going to be hard because I’m going to miss them a lot,” he explained. “It was nice that we went away for a few weeks on holiday, but it also makes it harder because I spend the whole day with them and from tomorrow I’m going to go away and not see them, so yeah.”
Shedding his tears, he added that he does not “even want to think about it”, before the clip ended. Gorka and Gemma have been happily together since 2017, and have been engaged to get hitched since 2021.
The couple share two beautiful children – daughter Mia and son Santiago. However, the pair have stated that neither are in a rush to say I do, opting instead to wait until Santiago is old enough to take part in the ceremony before they say their vows.
