Terrifying horror films that were pulled from cinemas despite huge A-list cast members

Some seriously iconic horror movies were actually box office flops.

Badly performing films can be pulled from theatres for a number of reasons and many of the most well-known ones may surprise you. First off, A Cure For Wellness was released back in 2016 and featured some big name actors.

Mia Goth and Celia Imrie star alongside Dane DeHaan and Jason Isaacs in the horror mystery flick which didn’t do so great at the box office. With a large budget and respected director Gore Verbinski on board, it was a recipe for success that didn’t deliver.

It has been reported that upon release, A Cure For Wellness was shown in 2,704 theatres which was slowly whittled down to 88 after two weeks. Alone In The Dark is another sad tale – fronted by Tara Reid and Christian Slater, the horror was based on a survival video game and received extremely poor reviews.

Despite a $20 million budget, the 2005 film was slowly pulled from theatres across four weekends as cinemagoers slowly moved on. Running at just over an hour and a half, Alone In The Dark is widely regarded as a total flop.

It has an IMDb rating of 2.4 out of 10 with scathing reviews titled “shockingly bad” and “you almost feel sorry for the actors”. One savage film buff branded it “completely horrible” while another person hilariously quipped: “How NOT to direct a film.”

Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey was a direct result of the classic kid’s character entering the public domain. The gory horror was reportedly pulled after it was scheduled for a one night run, which was upped to ten as word of the film began to circulate online.

However, clicks didn’t equal tickets and sadly WTPBH was yanked off screens. Surprisingly, many Hollywood names have been cast in films that were pulled from cinemas, such as Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.

Lindsay Lohan’s I Know Who Killed Me was cut from theatres after over 1000 showed it on opening weekend. A month later, the horror remained in just 65.
