Ben and Cat joined This Morning as permanent presenters last month, replacing Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby by hosting the show Monday to Thursday. Alison and Dermot usually present This Morning on Fridays but often step in to cover holidays.

Demot kicked off the Bank Holiday Monday show by playing an April Fool’s Day prank Alison. They welcomed a guest to the ITV studio to discuss her £1.50 vase which was valued for an eye-watering £30,000 on BBC’s Antique’s Roadshow.

As the presenters spoke to the guest, Alison continued to warn Dermot to “stay away” from the vase but he ended up knocking the ornament off the stand and it smashed into pieces. Alison froze in fear and rushed to comfort the concerned guest but it wasn’t long before Dermot admitted that it was all an April Fool’s prank leaving his co-star almost in tears.

The joke didn’t go down well on social media, with viewers watching at home working out the prank before it played out on screen. One fan penned: “Fake shock incoming. She’s stumbling her lines #thismorning.” Another added: “How on earth did anybody believe that vase cost £1.50 is worth £30000, think of the date #thismorning.”

A third person said: “April fool vase – Saw that coming a mile off.” Someone else said: “They’re going to knock this vase off as an April Fools aren’t they.” A fifth person said: “Can you just break the vase and say “April Fool’s!” so I can move on with my life? #ThisMorning.”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 10am
