Vanessa Feltz has admitted she feels “smashed up” by life.
The TV personality – whose long-term romance with Ben Ofoedu ended last year – opened up on the Stirring It Up podcast, saying that she used to be a “jolly” sort of person but that looking back she had been “naive”. This Morning star Vanessa revealed to the show’s hosts, mother-daughter duo Andi and Miquita Oliver, that life events like losing her mum to cancer have had a big impact.
“I think I used to be, I was, really jolly, like merry, a happy kind of person,” she said. “And kind of bowling along for the next funny, good fun thing that was going to happen to me.

“In a very kind of, when I think about it now, absolutely, ridiculously naive kind of a way… I’m a fairly straightforward and ‘having a nice time’ kind of a person, I thought. And then I feel a bit smashed up by it all. And I think it’s a bit of a shame.”
She continued: “I feel like if you’d known me then, before life sort of imploded in various ways, I would have been a merrier guest for lunch. There have been some horrible career things, I lost my mum when she was just 57. I was 33… I miss her every day, really every day and, for my girls, I felt I needed to be me and also her.”
“When my husband left, I felt I needed to be him, so I had to be me, him, my mum,” said Vanessa, who has two daughters with her ex Michael Kurer, who she was married to from 1983 to 2000.
Vanessa was with Phats and Small singer Ben for 16 years, but they broke up last year. The TV star told her fans on social media at the time that she was feeling “incredibly sad” and “pretty disappointed and shocked and all those horrible things”. But she also insisted that she wouldn’t let the split defeat her and that she was “full of resolve”.
Ben later told the Mirror that he’d had an affair eight years earlier and that he’d also texted and flirted with another woman. He has now moved on with model and producer Precious Muir.
After the split, Vanessa made no secret of the fact that she was open to finding love again and went on Celebs Go Dating. She admitted on This Morning that she was a bit of a “rotten picker” when it came to choosing men to date so thought she would get some help from the experts. However, the presenter struggled to find a spark with any of the men lined up for on the series.
