Tom Hardy is known for his intense performances on screen, and it appears as though he’s just as intense backstage.
The award-winning actor is best known for his work in blockbuster films such as Mad Max, The Revenant and Venom. The actor has gone to some extreme lengths to get into the mindset of these unusual characters.
But what many fans may be surprised to know are some of his unusual on-set demands while filming. Now, photographer Danny Lyon has exposed some of the dad-of-three’s bizarre requests.

The 84-year-old, whose work inspired Tom’s latest film, Bikeriders, was invited to the set to see the man at work. But when he arrived Cincinnati where the thriller was being filmed, Danny claims he was instructed not to look at the movie star.
This shocking revelation came from Danny’s new memoir, This Is My Life I’m Talking About. In his tell-all book, he recounted his journey to meet the Hollywood star. However, he never actually met Tom after being told not to look at him and was directed to watch the scenes unfold from behind a tree.
He wrote: “They tried to keep me away but I finally get there. It’s f***ing freezing. I just want to meet Tom Hardy.
“He gets on set and they say, ‘You can’t look at him’. I said, ‘What do you mean? Why can’t I look at him? ‘ They say, ‘Oh, he doesn’t like it’.
“So they make me hide behind a tree and all this bulls**t,” Danny boldly claimed. In the blockbuster film, Tom stars opposite Elvis actor Austin Butler who, in contrast, is reported to be nothing but a gentleman on set.
And it appears as though this wouldn’t be the first time Tom has made some unusual demands on set. In fact, it has been reported that the actor has left a lasting impression on his guests and co-stars since he first stepped foot onto a film set.
His former co-star Patrick Stewart once spoke about Tom Hardy’s frosty behaviour during their time together on the set of Star Trek: Nemesis. The veteran actor doubted the young star’s future success due to his standoffish attitude.
The 83-year-old star didn’t see a bright future for Tom, citing his aloofness as a potential barrier to his career trajectory. Opening up about their time together in his memoir, Patrick also revealed that Tom seemed more keen on hanging out with his girlfriend than mingling with the seasoned actors on set.
He penned: “Tom wouldn’t engage with any of us on a social level. Never said, ‘Good morning,’ never said, ‘Goodnight,’ and spent the hours he wasn’t needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend.”
