Zayn Malik’s sister is “heartbroken” over Liam Payne’s death.
Waliyha has expressed her devastation over the tragic death of Liam Payne on social media. The 31 year old tragically fell from his hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 16 October.
While Liam’s former One Direction bandmates have yet to comment on the singer’s sudden death, Maliks sister took to Instagram to post her own heartfelt tributes to the Strip That Down star. Waliyha, Zayn’s younger sibling aged 26, shared a series of photos featuring Liam and his One Direction bandmates throughout the years.

She confessed to her followers that she was still reeling from the news of Liam’s untimely passing. “Literally hearbroken. RIP. I have no words,” she penned.
Waliyha would have been just 12 when One Direction was formed on The X Factor. Despite the strained relationship between Zayn and Liam since Zayn’s departure from the boyband in 2015, Waliyha’s tribute has sparked hope among fans that a close bond still existed between the lads, reports the Mirror.
She also reshared a video of Liam discussing Zayn during a fan interaction, where he said: “Zayn doing well, coming out on tour, I’m so proud of him.” Back in 2020, Liam opened up about his rocky relationship with ex-bandmate Zayn while chatting with Logan Paul.
He cited “many reasons” for his mixed feelings towards Zayn, saying: “There’s many reasons why I dislike Zayn and there’s many reasons why I’ll always, always be on his side,” revealing his empathy for Zayn’s personal struggles.
Liam reflected: “[…] At the end of the day, once you understand what he’s been through to get to that point, and also whether or not he even wanted to be there,” adding, “I’m so misunderstood by myself more than anyone, like I don’t know what I’m doing or why I’m here. It’s like, I can’t sit here and d**k on him because of whatever.”
Addressing the heat he got online for his initial comments, Liam doubled down on Zayn via social media, stressing: “I was saying that there will always be things we disagree on but that I will always, always be on his side. That’s family. Zayn is my brother and I will stand by him forever,” underlining his unwavering loyalty despite their differences.
Niall Horan’s bro Greg, aged 37, also chimed in to honour Liam, bigging up the 31 year old for having Niall’s back during their 1D days. “You were a top young boy to a man, a son, a brother, you are only one of 4 lads I was happy enough to take my place in Niall’s life as a brother. You will be forever missed,” he wrote.
Harry Styles’ mum Anne Twist hit Instagram with a very emotional nod, adding a broken heart emoji to a sombre black backdrop with the words: “Just a boy..”
