One former BBC acting legend has his eyes on an iconic 90s show returning to screens.

Minder star Gary Webster would love for the hit BBC series to make a mighty comeback.

Gary’s first major TV role was in EastEnders playing Graham Clark from 1987 until 1988. However, a few years later became better known for playing Ray Daley in Minder, after replacing Dennis Waterman as George Cole’s on-screen sparring partner in the series from 1991-1994.

As he promoted his upcoming film Jackie the Stripper, Gary spoke exclusively to us about his impressive telly career and his future hopes for the show.

Gary said: “I think you could bring it back, there’s no doubt about that, obviously, it would need more edge to it but I think a lot of the same themes are still current, but it would have to be reflective of London’s ever-changing society.

“Yes of course, it would be great fun, Ray my character is the last through line so, I’m the last man standing so yeah if anyone decided to bring it back, I would be happy.

“I’m incredibly proud to be a part of the show. It crossed all sections of society, every race, class, colour, everyone had an Arthur Daley, it was a great, unifying programme. It rally did unite everyone as everyone could relate to it.”

Gary, who has already played two characters on EastEnders in the past, is also keen to give Walford another pop, as he returned in 2016, to play Neville Peacock for four episodes.

Talking about whether he will come back for a third time as a new character, Gary shared: “I’ve done EastEnders twice, I don’t know if I will do it for a third time… Well, of course if they called and it depended on the kind of character offered then I would certainly think about it.”

Gary also spoke about his new role in upcoming role in Jackie the Stripper, which is has also cast Katie Price and takes on a modern day story based on Jack the Ripper.

Talking about his role in the film, Gary commented: “I play the character called John Gray, who is a policeman, and he is there to protect our lead character and any offspring from her.

“He is a good man and he realises there is corruption around and Jack the Ripper is on the loose. He’s part of a freemasonry type group.

“I am definitely a goody in this film – it’s fun to play a bad guy but when you’re a good character it can be more difficult as you need to keep it more interesting.”
