American Pie actor Jason Biggs has been forced to make a major lifestyle change after his doctor raised concerns about his health – and it seemed one of his favourite snacks was to blame
Jason Biggs, the star of American Pie, experienced a health scare related to high cholesterol levels after indulging in too much ice cream.
The 46-year-old actor confessed that he had to overhaul his diet and incorporate a new fitness routine to manage his cholesterol levels, and lost weight in the process.
Speaking to New York Post’s PageSix column, he said: “I had some cholesterol issues. Probably because of the … ice cream pints I would knock back.”
After modifying his diet and increasing his physical activity, Jason managed to shed 35 pounds. However, he admits it took him some time to recover from the health scare.
He shared: “It’s been a journey. My cholesterol came down 70 points.”
This revelation comes after Jason previously discussed his struggle with alcoholism. He admitted to attending therapy sessions to overcome his addiction, but ironically, he would purchase vodka on his way home from these sessions.
While featuring on the All the Fails podcast, he elaborated: “I’m going to therapy and ‘working on things’ but meanwhile I’m leaving therapy, having just had a good session, and I’m going to the liquor store and buying a fifth of vodka, drinking it and then driving home.”
Jason confessed that he was adept at concealing his addiction from his wife for an extended period, revealing: “I knew how to get wasted enough to where I took myself out of the life equation – took myself out of the present, didn’t have to connect in a way that made me feel things.”
He elaborated on his deceptive mastery, saying: “I had it figured out to a T – to not get too drunk where I couldn’t have a conversation with you [Jenny]. I was replacing those bottles in the [home] bar all the time.”
In 2018, Jason marked a significant milestone by celebrating his first year of sobriety, following an unsuccessful attempt to quit drinking five years prior.
Commemorating this personal victory on Instagram, he shared: “I first tried to get sober over five years ago, when the weight of my obsession with booze and drugs became too heavy for me to handle.”
Alongside his heartfelt message, Jason posted an image of a silver sobriety coin inscribed with the maxim: “To thine own self be true,” and the principles: “Unity, service, recovery.”
