Antiques Roadshow expert charged with terrorism after police investigation

Bargain Hunt star Ochuko Ojiri has been charged with terror offences.

The 53-year-old antiques expert was held over a probe into terrorist financing and is the first person to be charged with a specific offence under section 21A of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Ochuko is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 9. The Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip star has been charged with eight counts of failing to make a disclosure during the course of business within the regulated sector.

The alleged offences took place between October 2020 and December 2021, and he was charged following an investigation into terrorist financing conducted by officers from the National Terrorist Financial Investigation Unit.

The presenter is set to appear on court on 9 May

This unit is part of the Met Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Away from his TV appearances, Ochuko was also an art gallery owner before he turned his career toward the small screen.

Telly fans will recognise him from Bargain Hunt, where he has appeared many times as an antiques expert, and from BBC’s Antiques Road Trip, during which stars travel across the country in search of a profit.

The official BBC website features a page dedicated to the antiques expert, where Ochuko explained that he collects “contemporary art, paintings, prints, sculpture and drawings.”

When asked why he chose a career in antiques, Ochuko joked: “No other industry would accept my rare mixture of sarcasm, cynicism and passion. Ha ha!”
