Wicked powerhouse Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande could bet set to secure their wins at The Oscars.

The duo, who played Elphaba and Glinda in the musical movie, became known for the colours green and pink. But it turns out black might be the key to winning their Oscar nominations.

Cynthia is nominated in the Best Actress In A Leading Role for Elphaba. Pop superstar Ariana is nominated for Best Actress In A Supporting Role for Glinda, after being “robbed” at the BAFTAs, according to fans.

So far during award season, they’ve both been snubbed at the major ceremonies. But new research, as well as the theory of colour energy, could see their losing streaks come to an end.

Research from Pinnacle shows that, since 1980, 26% of the winners of those two categories have turned up to the event in black. While that may seem like a small percentage, the drop down to second place is quite substantial.

In second place, with 15%, is white, followed by blue at 14%, gold or green at 9% and pink at 6%. On the other hand, grey, gold and black or purple and black appear to be the most unlucky colours or combinations, with just 1% of wins each.

Back in 2003, Nicole Kidman wore an elegant Jean Paul Gaultier dress when she scooped Best Actress for The Hours. Similarly, Julia Roberts wore a black Valentino dress in 2001 when she won for Erin Brockovich.

Speaking about the potential colour has, celebrity astrologer Inbaal Honigman said: “One of the most important elements in manifesting luck and good fortune is the use of colour. Every colour has its own unique spiritual energy, linked to its vibration. Therefore, every colour contains and manifests its own luck. Colour energy is also tied to an astrological planet, a numerology value, a day of the week, and even careers that align best with it.

“Awards show luck has been linked especially with black. Black is the absence of colour, absorbing all light and, in spiritual thought, dispelling negative energy. By eliminating negativity, only the positive remains. At an awards ceremony, wearing black makes the wearer all things to all people, attracting good fortune by allowing others to see what they want to see.”

She continued: “Wearing white has also been considered lucky. White is a blend of all colours, reflecting every personality trait. Like black, it allows others to project their views onto the wearer, making it particularly lucky in creative fields where versatility is valued.”
