BBC Look North newsreader Peter Levy was left blushing live on air after reading out a cheeky email from a viewer about weatherman Paul Hudson, and he had to stop reading
A BBC presenter was left blushing as they read out a cheeky letter from a viewer.
BBC presenters have suffered some amusing blunders in recent times, such as South Today star Alexis Green who stumbled over her words and kicked herself for it. This week, The One Show star Alex Jones had to interrupt guest Amanda Holden when she ran out of time – and back in January, BBC Sport accidentally panned to two crew members on set.
But BBC Look North weatherman Paul Hudson was in for it on Thursday (May 1). He admitted he was “lost for words” with the risky email from a viewer, and apparent admirer, of his work.
The moment took place during the show’s regular morning segment, called Leave It To Levy. Presenter Peter Levy and Paul were having banter following a forecast, with Paul poking fun at his co-star’s outfit.
He said viewers had been in touch about the pale suit Peter was wearing: “Can you ask Peter if he’s umpiring a cricket match straight after Look North.”
He couldn’t resist mocking his co-star as he said: “There we are. I could go on Peter.” Peter took it well and jumped in to admit: “Yeah you can go on, that’s the problem. I have nothing to say, I can see it a mile off. Just get it out of your system.”
Peter fired back with a user email of his own, but quickly realised the email was too inappropriate for the cameras. He burst out laughing and had to stop himself from finishing the letter.
Pulling out a cue card, Peter read: “Ann Yates says ‘I would love to have Paul face upwards’…” He quickly stopped in his tracks and grew red in the face, panicking: “Hang on, hang on,”
Paul said he was “lost for words” and told his colleague to carry on. However, Peter wasn’t able to due to the (apparently) risky content it contained. “No I’ve just read the next line, I can’t do it,” he confessed.
Fans online were in stitches and quickly took to X to share their delight at the clip. “That was so funny,” laughed one.
Another added: “So funny. Nothing too untoward in it. That’s what makes Peter and Paul great.” Others were desperate to find out what the rest of the email said, with one asking: “What was the next line though,”
Last year, the newsreader urged listeners to be careful after finding himself the victim of scammers. He revealed he had been scammed out of half his life savings.
“It is the most horrific, horrific feeling,” he said at the time. “It’s absolutely awful, you feel stupid, you feel thick, you feel… It happened in February and it is still being sorted out.
“Just this lunchtime I’ve been to a bank. It’s awful, so when people talk about the scams it is dreadful, it’s awful.”
Peter then discussed how many people have been targeted by scams. He added: “It is so traumatising and upsetting It’s dreadful. You can’t sleep, you can’t do anything. You feel helpless and I fell for something.”
