BBC Strictly Come Dancing pro lands own show ‘this is a dream come true’

One Strictly Come Dancing pro has landed an exciting opportunity away from the BBC show

Strictly Come Dancing’s Kai Widdrington is set for an exciting Christmas with a brand new gig away from the BBC dance show. The professional dancer will be trading his dancing shoes for a microphone as he takes on hosting duties for a festive special on Magic Radio.

After expressing his fondness for the radio station during a visit with his Strictly partner Vicky Pattison earlier this year, 30 year old Kai has been handed the reins for his own Yuletide programme on Magic Radio, set to air on the 21st and 24th of December.

The show’s blurb promises: “Over the two shows Kai will share a selection of his festive favourites, songs that he’s danced to in the ballroom as well as the music that means the most to him.

“Listeners can expect tunes from Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Wham, the Spice Girls and The Pogues with Kirsty MacColl.

“He also shares some Widdrington family traditions including the fact that his Mum makes the whole family sit down to watch the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special on Christmas Day.

“A joy when he wins – as he did in 2022 and 2024 – but will he be able to make it a hat-trick this year as he dances with All Saint Melanie Blatt?!”

On his exciting new role, Kai gushed: “I’m thrilled to be sharing my music loves with Magic Radio listeners this Christmas!”

Kai gushed: “I’ve been a massive fan of Magic for ages – it’s the station I put on when I need good vibes, good music, and that bit of sparkle. Honestly, this is a dream come true for me, especially at Christmas – my favourite time of year.

“I love everything about it: the lights, the songs, the whole warm-fuzzy feeling of it all. So getting to share that Christmas magic with listeners feels like a real treat. I can’t wait.”

The dancing star has been lighting up Strictly Come Dancing since 2021, partnering up with TV personalities like Angela Rippon, Kaye Adams, AJ Odudu, and Vicky Pattison. Previously, he worked his magic as a pro dancer on Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars from 2017 to 2020, reports Wales Online.

Born into a footy-loving family, Kai’s dad is ex-Premier League footballer Tommy Widdrington, while his little bro, Theo, plays for Aldershot Town F. C.

However, Kai traded in his football boots for dance shoes at 12, and by 14, he was already crowned the World Junior Latin American champion.

You can listen to Kai on Magic Radio from 6pm on Sunday 21st December and 7pm on Thursday 24th December.
