James Whale was hosting his TalkTV show when he made a devastating update about his health, admitting live on air things are getting harder amid his terminal cancer battle
A beloved TV presenter left viewers devastated as opened up on his terminal cancer battle.
James Whale MBE made the heartbreaking admission that he was suffering from stage four kidney cancer back in 2020. As well as being rushed to intensive care last year, things only got worse for the broadcaster when he previously revealed his show on news channel TalkTV – co-hosted by Ash Gould – was being cancelled.
Earlier last month, James had given another emotional update saying that his condition had gotten worse. As a result, doctors had decided to stop giving him treatment, and was given the devastating news that he would be “lucky to make it to Christmas “.
But on Friday evening’s broadcast (June 6), James took to the airwaves once again of his show James Whale Unleashed, ready to chat about the big stories hitting the headlines. During the show, the two hosts spoke with a guest who had been affected by the loss of her late husband to cancer.
In an emotional update, the broadcaster said to her: “Until very recently, everything was quite normal for me, everything was fine. And then you do get to a stage like I am now, with things get to be very, very difficult.”
He continued, speaking directly to viewers as he fought back tears: “To anybody else who is in the final stages of cancer, you have my sympathy. I know exactly what you’re going through, I do know, I look basically okay, I get told you look alright and I look okay, it’s all make-up.”
After his heart-wrenching update, many viewers flocked to social media to send the Celebrity Big Brother star their thoughts. One viewer penned in a heartfelt tribute: “I’m also stage 4 kidney cancer but you are a real inspiration. I seriously can’t believe how much better you look compared to 2 weeks ago!”
A second user willed the veteran broadcaster on, writing: “You’re amazing James! Keep showing the C who’s boss!” While a third added: “My heart goes out to you Mr Whale. You are a fighter.”
It comes after James opted to spend his 74th birthday in an intimate setting together with his pals and loved ones. Socialite and good friend Lizzie Cundy, who also features on his TalkTV show, shared a snap of the group as they celebrated James’ happy day.
Catching a snap of the group, Lizzie penned in the caption: “Birthday celebrations for my dear friend James Whale […] Happy birthday dearest James, we all love you so much.”
Speaking at a previous update, James admitted that doctors had stopped his medical treatment. “I’ve had all my treatment; I don’t want anybody feeling sorry for me, I’m just giving you the lowdown,” he said.
“I think if I make it to Christmas, I’ll be exceptionally lucky. Sometimes I think it might be easier to just have a heart attack and go.”
