BGT star who lost to Paul Potts then wowed Simon Cowell unrecognisable 18 years on

Connie Talbot, who won the hearts of the nation in the first series of Britain’s Got Talent, has come a long way since her TV debut – and she looks completely unrecognisable

Britain’s Got Talent’s darling Connie Talbot, who melted hearts as a six-year-old on the show’s inaugural series, has blossomed into a full-fledged star.

Now 24-years-old, the sweetheart from Sutton Coldfield, who memorably made the judges weep with her “Over the Rainbow” performance, boasts an impressive social media following with over 307,000 fans – marking an astounding rise to fame since bursting onto the scene in 2007.

A recent snap on Instagram shows the young celeb stunning in a black swimsuit, basked in glorious sunshine, hinting she’s living it up on a well-deserved break.

Connie’s heartwarming rendition of the cherished classic from The Wizard Of Oz had famously spellbound Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, and Piers Morgan in the gripping finale. She was considered a heavyweight for the BGT crown, neck and neck with opera virtuoso Paul Potts.

Simon Cowell was so smitten by her talent that he described her act as “pure magic” and even suggested he’d help her score over “£1 million-plus this year”. With no professional training, Connie’s raw talent didn’t just charm the onlookers but also sparked a frenzy among global news outlets.

Post-BGT life saw Connie release “Over the Rainbow,” her first album, which flew off the shelves with 250,000 copies sold, securing number 35 in the UK charts and reigning supreme overseas places like Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan. She continued to enchant fans with a festive album and two more records until 2012, reports Cornwall Live.

Connie, who first stole hearts on BGT back in 2007, made a comeback to the show’s stage in 2019 for The Champions series but didn’t quite clinch a spot in the final. Not one to be kept down, she later wowed audiences on America’s Got Talent: The Champions with a live performance of her single.

Last year, Connie bravely opened up about a harrowing experience with a stalker, but she hasn’t let that stop her from chasing her musical dreams. She dropped an EP titled ‘Growing Pains’ in August 2023 and even released a festive track, ‘Wonderland Skies’, last December.

The songstress is now set to hit the road, announcing she’ll be joining the US cover band Boyce Avenue on their European tour. Flaunting her vocal chops on Instagram with a beautiful cover of ABBA’s ‘Slipping Through My Fingers’, she excitedly posted: “A friendly reminder that I’m proudly supporting @boyceavenue on their Europe tour. I am so excited don’t let tickets slip through your fingers … (dad joke) they’re in my bio can’t wait to see you there.”

Connie has a big following of her own

Her fans are buzzing with excitement over her latest venture, flooding her post with support. One fan gushed: “Amazing, you’re each day with the most beautiful, perfectly wonderful voice.”

Another chimed in: “This is one of my favourite ABBA songs and you have done an amazing cover of this beautiful song, love it! ! Keep up the good work, you’re fantastic at what you do.”
