The acclaimed DJ and vocalist John Reid has died aged 61.
The Glasgow-born producer and DJ was best known for being the vocalist behind the iconic 90s dance project Nightcrawlers. It comes following the death of other notable DJs this year, such as DJ Funk and fellow Scots DJ Niamh Jobson.
Alongside producing, Reid built a career as an esteemed song writer. He co-wrote Tina Turner’s 1999 hit-single “When the Heartache Is Over” and the Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis hit “A Moment Like This” Reid also worked on contributing tracks for Rod Stewart, and co-writing Westlife’s UK No.1 “Unbreakable”.
Nightcrawler’s huge 90s hit “Push the Feeling On” has become a club classic and has been remixed a number of times since it’s initial release by stars including JCA and Rosabot and Big Narstie.

The Time Frequency (TTF) vocalist Mary Kiani, who was engaged to John for nine years, shared the difficult news of his passing online. She wrote: “Just heard this morning that my first love John Reid died suddenly. We met in Glasgow but fell in love in London.
“He was recording his album with Roy Hay (Culture Club) for his new band ‘This way up’. Myself and Danusia DanooshaZaremba were on tour, and every night we met at the Columbian hotel.
“We bought our first flat in Dennistoun age 21 & 22. We were both doing great with our music. The birth of The Nightcrawlers happened (Push the feeling on) . We toured, we recorded, we did our vocal sessions together. We parted 9 years later. Last year, I got in touch with him. I said I’d love to say hello again before one of us dies. I saw him just last year in Glasgow. RIP John.”

She wasn’t the only one paying tribute to the late DJ, with vocal coach and Red Hot Chilli Pipers singer Chris Judge, writing: “RIP John Reid, an incredible Scottish singer with so much soul most famous for his vocals in the Nightcrawlers hit push the feeling on…
“Sending love to my besty Mary Kiani you guys were the OG Session singers of the 90s l’ve loved hearing your story’s Sjo Big hugs xxx.”
John also collaborated with Simon Cowell and Ian Levine on tracks like “Whenever You Need Someone” (Bad Boys Inc), and also wrote for Eternal, Gemini, and Claire Richards’ festive song “My Heart Is Heading Home (This Christmas).”

Heart 90s Breakfast show host, Kevin Hughes, shared his condolences on X, writing: “Sorry to hear this news. RIP John Reid. DJ, producer, songwriter & Nightcrawlers star. The classic Push The Feeling On. Co-writer of Leona/Kelly hit “A Moment Like This” plus songs for Westlife, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Bad Boys Inc, Eternal, Andrea Bocelli. My Condolences.”
