David Beckham has made his first public appearance since undergoing a secret operation to address a longstanding injury. The former England captain was spotted with his arm in a sling after having surgery to repair a wrist injury that had been bothering him for over two decades.

The injury originated from a broken wrist he sustained during a match against South Africa 22 years ago, when he landed awkwardly after a challenge. England went on to win the friendly 2-1 in 2003.

Beckham, now 50, was in attendance to watch Inter Miami, the team he co-founded, take on his former side Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup in Atlanta. He looked stylish in his club’s suit, with his arm heavily bandaged and supported by a navy blue sling.

At one point, he was seen chatting with former PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Georgia.

Despite being heavily strapped, Beckham appeared to be in good spirits as he watched the match. When asked about his injury, he downplayed its severity, saying: “It’s fine. It’s an old injury that needed surgery, but it’s all good. All good,” reports the Mirror.

This sighting comes just days after Beckham revealed he was recovering in hospital, with his wife Victoria sharing a photo of him lying in a hospital bed with his arm in a sling. The former Spice Girl captioned the image with a heartfelt message, saying: “Get well soon, Daddy.”

She also gifted him a friendship bracelet made of white beads that spelled out ‘Get Well Soon’.

David recently revealed the toll his illustrious career has taken on his body, admitting years of “wear and tear” have left him with numerous injuries, saying: “Certain parts of my body were a real mess.”

Speaking to DAZN, Becks downplayed his latest surgery, stating: “It’s fine. It’s an old injury that needed surgery, but it’s all good. All good.”

Focusing on the upcoming match, he shared his sentimental attachment to the game with DAZN: “To be honest, it’s quite an emotional match for me. Obviously, the team that we own is playing probably the best team in the world right now, and who would have thought?

“For me to finish my career in Paris the way I did with this club was very special. I only spent six months there, but it felt like 16 years. It’s a real family.

“It’s a real special club, owned by special people, run by a special man. We’re very proud of this moment to be stood here, knowing that we are playing against PSG as owners, as friends, as partners. It’s very special.”

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi expressed his dissatisfaction with his time in Paris ahead of Sunday’s match, revealing: “Coming to play for Inter Miami was an opportunity and the way things developed during my last years in Paris, although it was a decision that I had to make on the go, because I had to leave from Barcelona, I went through two years which I didn’t enjoy.

“I wasn’t happy on a daily basis, with the training, the matches. I had a hard time adapting to all that. I felt called to come to Inter [Miami] because it’s a club that’s growing, very new, with few years as a club.”
