Dua Lipa fans have been left fuming as the Training Season hit-maker chose to bring Charli XCX out as her special guest for the second of her two sold-out Wembley stadium gigs
Dua Lipa’s supporters are fuming after the Training Season chart-topper invited Charli XCX to join her on stage as the star turn during her second sell-out show at Wembley. Dua, aged 29, was determined to make a splash for her opening night at the legendary venue last Friday, bringing out Jamiroquai for a surprise appearance.
The smash-hit singer and Jamiroquai knocked it out of the park with a stellar rendition of the ’96 classic, Virtual Insanity, part of her Radical Optimism tour. The iconic vocalist Jay Kay, famous for his headgear, donned a classic black hat sporting a purple trim paired with a white fringed jacket, completing the look with matching purple trousers.
Punters were buzzing with the unexpected special guest, hurrying to Twitter and Instagram to express how gutted they were to have missed the London gig sensation, with one social media user confessing they “wish” they had witnessed the duet live.
However, Saturday’s crowd got word that 360 singer Charli XCX was the VIP act and fans were green with jealousy, claiming they’d been ‘robbed’ of a flashier, more current artist the previous evening. A bunch of ticked-off fans who rocked up to the Wembley performance on Friday let off steam on social media, moaning that Jamiroquai just didn’t measure up to Charli.
One fan exclusively told The Mirror: “The balance just feels off. Yes, Jamiroquai is a big artist who has sold millions of records, but when he popped out on stage you could just feel that tinge of disappointment in the air. There had been rumours that Adele would be her special guest, and other names like Raye and Harry Styles were thrown around too.”, reports the Mirror.
The downhearted gig-goer added: “The majority of Dua’s fans are young – like Gen Z’s and even younger – so when an artist from the 90s came out on stage, it just kind of felt like the wrong choice. Don’t get me wrong it was an amazing performance and Dua killed the vocals while singing with him, but to find out that someone as HUGE as Charli was lined-up for the second night, just seems a bit unfair. People are bound to be absolutely livid.”
Meanwhile, the Kosovo-born superstar was awash with emotions as she lived out her ultimate dream at her Wembley gig on Friday night. The world-famous sensation has enjoyed a meteoric rise since breaking into the music scene, and there’s no halt in sight for her.
On Friday, she rocked Wembley Stadium for the first time on the initial evening of a two-night run at the iconic venue, ahead of her visit to Anfield in Liverpool. Yet the British-Albanian icon was almost incredulous as she took a moment to soak in the love from the jam-packed crowd in north-west London that turned up to watch her dazzle onstage.
Devotees had been pitching tents outside the stadium since Thursday, eager to snag the best spots up front to watch their pop deity smash out her top tunes. Taking the stage, Dua Lipa gushed to her fans: “It means the absolute world to me that you’re here tonight. It feels really special to be here today.”
The ‘Levitating’ hitmaker went on with emotion: “It’s been ten years since our first ever London show, which happened to be about 350 people, and I dreamt of a night like this that I get to be in front of 70,000 people. I’m so, so blown away.”
Joining an exclusive circle of female solo powerhouses to take centre stage at the stadium, Dua took a moment to look back on her dazzling journey, singling out the track she reckons turned her fate around after landing a deal with her management and record label.
It was none other than ‘Hotter Than Hell,’ incredibly apt as Britain basked in the swelter of the hottest day of the year yet.
