BBC EastEnders viewers were left saying the same thing as Cindy Beale made a dramatic return to Walford, crashing her son Peter Beale and Lauren Branning’s party
EastEnders fans were gobsmacked as Cindy Beale (played by the legendary Michelle Collins) rocked up in Monday night’s episode, crashing Peter Beale and Lauren Branning’s engagement bash.
The whole episode had viewers on edge as Peter was seen sneaking off for mysterious phone calls. After a final appointment with the midwife, the couple made their way to Harry’s Barn for their shindig, only to be ambushed by an unexpected face.
As George was toasting to the happy couple and the Beale clan, in strutted Cindy, quipping: “Don’t tell me I missed the party.”
Cindy’s comeback wasn’t exactly met with open arms, and it seems like the fans are just as miffed. Over on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, one viewer blasted: “Why is cindy back? It’s her fault Martin is dead!” while another moaned: “Was hoping for a Max Branning return but got Cindy instead!!”
One fan couldn’t help but chuckle at the soundtrack choice as Cindy made her entrance: “Haha What a song for Cindy to walk in with ‘Don’t , don’t You want Me’. . #EastEnders,” while another remarked: “Cindy…. well, I’m not excited to see her back but we’ll see!”, reports the Mirror.
But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as some EastEnders enthusiasts were thrilled at the sight of Cindy, with one jubilant tweet reading: “HAPPY CINDY BEALE DAY TO THOSE WHO CELEBRATE! !”.
It seems Cindy might be plotting a vengeful return to square off against Kathy and Ian, after discovering it was Kathy who clonked her with a shovel last Christmas. Despite being bribed by Ian to scarper from Walford—with threats of spilling the beans about her shoving him into the path of Reiss’ car, sparking that fatal blast in the Vic—Cindy’s exit earlier this year left fans on tenterhooks.
Michelle Collins, who plays Cindy, has dropped hints of high-octane drama awaiting her character’s comeback, saying: “Cindy comes back wanting to make amends, and wanting to get back with her family, but I think what she doesn’t realise is that people have not forgotten and they’re not going to forgive her that easily.”
She also revealed that Cindy’s expecting a warm welcome, but instead gets a “very frosty reception” from those she wronged. Michelle quipped: “She’s quite deluded, isn’t she?”.
The actress further suggested that there’s more family strife on the horizon, hinting that Cindy “wouldn’t go down without a fight” in the upcoming episodes.
