Fans have rushed to send their love and prayers after Bobby Sherman’s wife announced that the Little Woman singer has recently been diagnosed with stage four cancer
US pop singer Bobby Sherman has been diagnosed with cancer, his wife has shared.
The chart star – who was a teen idol in the early 60s and late 70s – was recently diagnosed and is battling stage four cancer. His wife Brigitte Poublon shared the news in a moving message on Facebook, telling Bobby’s fans that their “kindness means the world”.
She wrote on the site: “To all of Bobby Sherman’s cherished fans. As many of you know, Bobby has been retired for some time and is no longer able to participate in cameos, sign autographs, or make appearances.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share Bobby has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. During this challenging time, we kindly ask for your understanding and respect for our privacy.
“Thank you so much for still remembering him,” she added. “We really appreciate it.”
She added two old snaps of the singer and the caption: “Your kindness means the world. Thank you for keeping Bobby in your prayers.”
Brigitte later penned another message explaining that she was keeping her husband’s privacy. “Thank you all for the good well wishes,” she wrote. “We really appreciate it. Unfortunately, I feel we must keep things confidential for Bobby’s sake. Thank you for understanding.”
Bobby rose to fame in the 60s with songs such as La La La (If I Had You), Julie, Do Ya Love Me and Hey, Mister Sun. His biggest hit, Little Woman, reached No3 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was released in 1969.
The singer continued to make music into the 70s but also tried his hand at acting, appearing in an episode of The Monkees and the film Get Crazy. However, he later stepped away from life in the spotlight.
In later life, Bobby worked as a paramedic. He was also a reserve deputy sheriff in California.
Fans flocked to pay tribute, saying how upset they were to hear the news. “This makes me so sad,” said one. “Bobby was such a huge part of my teenage years. My room was completely filled with posters and album covers of Bobby.”
Another posted: “I met Bobby at a book signing in the late 90s. He signed a record album and my lunch box. I will treasure them always, but mostly I treasure the memory I have of meeting him and talking with him. He is the really the nicest, most humble and caring, and most genuine person I’ve ever met! Sending him love and prayers.
“I want you to know that he was such a amazing role model for us teen girls,” said one fan. “My room used to be filled with his photos all over my walls with his music.
“Please tell Bobby we all love him,” urged someone else. “He was my first teen beat pin up poster!” said another.
