GB News anchor Tatiana Sanchez cut into the regular programming with a bombshell announcement.
The host shared that Nicola Sturgeon is bowing out of the political arena. “Former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, has announced she will not seek re election to Holyrood next year. Ms. Sturgeon, who represents the Glasgow South Side constituency, made the announcement on Instagram today,” she disclosed.
“In a letter to local SNP members, she said, ‘I’m writing to let you know I’ve decided not to seek re-election to the Scottish Parliament next year,’ she says she’ll be with the SNP every step of the way towards independence, despite stepping down as an MSP. Sturgeon resigned as First Minister in March 2023 after eight years in the role.”
Scotland’s longest-serving First Minister, who held the reins for nine years, called it quits in 2023 following the arrest and charging of her then-husband, Peter Murrell, for embezzling party funds.

Social media was ablaze with reactions from viewers, some clearly thrilled by the development. A user exclaimed on X: “Best news today, this week, this month, this decade…. Sturgeon is not going to stand for re-election! Now let’s get Mr and Mrs Murrell et al up in court. Where’s the KC in Scotland that’s supposed to be ‘handling’ this?”, reports the Mirror.
Another chimed in with a blunt: “Goodbye and good riddance.” While another user concurred: “About time!”.
Nicola Sturgeon has taken to Instagram to share her emotional departure from politics, posting images of her formal resignation letter and revealing her mixed feelings of “a mixture of sorrow and anticipation”.
“Being one of the original 1999 Members of the Scottish Parliament, serving (by the time of the election) for 27 years – almost exactly half my life – and getting to represent Glasgow Southside, the best constituency in Scotland, has been an honour beyond words,” she wrote in a touching caption. .

“However, I have known in my heart for a while that the time is right for me to embrace different opportunities in a new chapter of my life.
“I have therefore written this morning to SNP members in my constituency informing them that I will not be seeking selection for next year’s Holyrood election.”
She continued: “To my constituents, past and present: thank you for the trust you have placed in me. Being your MSP has been my privilege and I will continue to represent you to the best of my abilities until I step down next year.
“To Southside SNP members: your support, loyalty and friendship, through thick and thin, has meant more to me than you will ever know. You are the best of the best.
“To SNP members across the country: I may be leaving Parliament, but I will be by your side every step of the way as we complete our journey to independence,” she concluded with a forward-looking statement.
The news comes just two months after Sturgeon announced that she and her husband Peter Murrell have decided to separate. The political power couple, who got hitched in 2010 and have been an item since 2003, are now going their separate ways.
