Police investigating Gene Hackman’s death have made a U-turn.
The Hollywood actor, 95, was found dead at his home along with his with Betsy Arakawa, 63, and their dog earlier this week. Both of their bodies were found in separate rooms at the plush Santa Fe home and authorities believe they may have been dead for weeks before being discovered.
It was first believed that they both died due to carbon monoxide poisoning but there are now other theories at bay after Santa Fe Sheriff’s deputies soon rejected the notion as they confirmed there were no signs of either carbon monoxide in the air or a gas leak.
But now, Santa Fe’s fire chief Brian Moya has today refused to rule out carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause for the pair’s demise.

Officials have tested the gas lines around the vicinity and found no signs of a gas-related issue. The fire cheif also spoke to TODAY and agreed that any poisonous gas could’ve dissipated since their deaths.
It has also been said that it will take a long time for any official update on the cause of their death, according to officials. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adam Mendoza revealed that it could take several months to conclude.

Foul play is not thought to be involved but they cannot rule it out entirely at this stage. Investigators also shared that they did not find a suicide note or find any trauma to their bodies.
Police have now labelled their deaths as “suspicious” as their door was found open but showed no sign of forced entry, according to the affidavit.

After the death was announced, their family shared a message online to pay tribute to the couple. In a statement, Gene Hackman’s family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy.
“He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us he was always just Dad and Grandpa.
“We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss. Elizabeth, Leslie and Annie Hackman.”
