Two actors from the iconic 80s film Heathers tragically died after they seemingly ‘foreshadowed’ their own fates in the movie, through their characters’ unfortunate dialogue
Two Heathers actors died the same way their characters “foreshadowed”.
In the iconic 80s film Heathers, a bizarre twist of fate was inadvertently woven into the script with the characters’ lines foretelling the real-life deaths of two actors.
In one scene, Kim Walker, who played the role of Heather Chandler, taunts someone with the line: “What? Did you have a brain tumour for breakfast or something?”
Thirteen years later the actress sadly died of a brain tumour in her Los Angeles residence on March 6, 2001. Walker was also known for her roles in Say Anything… and A Reason to Believe.
In another scene involving Jeremy Applegate’s character, Peter Dawson, the actor’s lines also foreshadowed the cause of his death 12 years later.
During Heather’s funeral scene, Dawson falls to his knees in prayer and says: “Dear God, don’t let this happen to me. I don’t think I would be able to handle suicide.”
According to reports, the actor battled depression in the years following the film’s release, describing him as “under a great deal of pressure”. The actor, who dated Heather’s character briefly before the events of the film took place, took his own life in March 2000, approximately a year prior to Walker’s passing.
In his final words to describe the tragic end of their brief encounter, Dawson attributed the reason for their breakup to Heather perceiving him as “boring”. In a Reddit thread discussing the Heathers musical, one user pointed out some chilling parallels between the show and real life, prompting fans of the original film to chime in with their respects.
One person commented: “Yeah…that happened. RIP,” while another said “both actors” should rest in peace.
Another Redditor remarked: “That’s actually really tragic,” as numerous fans shared their condolences. A poignant comment also noted: “I always saw people talking about these two tragedies together. RIP.”
Heathers is a cult classic black comedy featuring Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannen Doherty. The plot revolves around four girls, three named Heather, who are part of an elite high school clique.
Winona plays Veronica Sawyer, an outcast in the group and the narrative takes a grim twist as students begin to die in what appear to be a number of suicides.
Since its 1980s debut, Heathers has not only garnered a broad fanbase but also inspired a stage adaptation and a TV series.
