Miley Cyrus’s dad, country music legend Billy Ray Cyrus, has been married three times in the past, and he now appears to be in a relationship with screen beauty Liz Hurley
Billy Ray Cyrus is no stranger to a high profile romance.
The Achy Breaky Heart star is known for singing about love, and off stage he’s had plenty of experience of it with his three marriages. Now 63, Billy has been married three times – to Cindy Smith, Tish Cyrus, who he shares daughter Miley Cyrus with, and singer-songwriter Firerose.
He is now thought to be stepping out with actress and model Liz Hurley after the pair shared a snap of them looking very cosy during a stroll in the countryside. With everyone talking about the new romance, we have a look back at Billy’s love life.
Cindy Smith
The star’s first marriage was back in the 80s, after he met Cindy Smith at a bar. In his 2013 book Hillbilly Heart, the star recalled how Cindy made an impression on him when he first saw her.
“The first night I remember seeing Cindy, she was wearing a small halter top and very short shorts,” he wrote. “It was probably 12:15 on a Friday or Saturday, and with her sweet little face, greenish blue eyes and that outfit, Cindy stood out among the crowd on a packed dance floor.”
The pair exchanged vows in 1986 but split in 1991.
Tish Cyrus
Billy and Tish’s marriage was one of the longer relationships in showbiz, with the pair together for 28 years.
They welcomed daughter Miley in 1992 then walked down the aisle the following year, and Billy adopted Tish’s children from her former relationship – Brandi and Trace. They went on to have another daughter, Noah, and son Braison.
They initially raised their family in Nashville but moved to Los Angeles while Miley was filming her TV show Hannah Montana. The path of true love did not run smooth and divorce raised its head more than once during their marriage. However, they stayed together until Tish filed for divorce in 2022.
It was finalised in 2023 and they said in a statement: “It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways – not with sadness, but with love in our hearts. We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths.”
Firerose
The star began dating 34-year-old Australian singer Firerose – whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodges – in 2022, despite their huge age gap. They got married in 2023.
Letting fans in on their news in a joint post on Instagram, they said: “0/10/23 will always be the beautiful, joyous day that our two souls united as one in holy matrimony.It was the most perfect, ethereal celebration of the love we could have ever imagined.”
However, the marriage hit the rocks just a few months later, and in May 2024 Billy filed for divorce. The split wasn’t the smoothest, with both making claims about each other, but the divorce was finalised last summer and the pair have gone their separate ways.
Liz Hurley
Then this Easter, Billy and Liz appeared to confirm they were an item.
The pair shared a snap on Instagram that showed them leaning up against a fence in a field, with Billy leaning over to kiss Liz’s cheek as she smiled up at him. The cute image was just captioned “Happy Easter”, but fans took it to be the couple’s way of making their romance Insta-official.
