A 99 To Beat contestant was forced to pull out of the ITV show after suffering a ‘freak accident’ while trying to clinch the £25,000 prize – and was rushed to hospital
ITV’s latest game show, 99 To Beat, presented by former soap stars Ryan and Adam Thomas from Coronation Street and Emmerdale respectively, has already lived up to its chaotic reputation – complete with a fair share of drama. Adam even broke down in tears during one “emotional” moment.
During the high-octane filming of the series, one contestant had to be rushed to hospital after sustaining an unexpected injury on set.
The game show, which sees 100 contestants go head-to-head in strange and unpredictable challenges, witnessed tensions escalate as competitors strived to avoid being knocked out. However, in a dramatic twist, one participant’s celebration swiftly turned into calamity.
Host Ryan disclosed that the unfortunate contestant twisted her ankle while rejoicing over a win.
“Yeah, one girl twisted her ankle just while celebrating,” Ryan shared. “It was so unfortunate because it took her out of the competition, and she must have been devastated. But freak accidents happen in life, and it is such a shame – the show must go on.”
The injury resulted in the contestant having to bow out of the competition and seek immediate medical care.
With high-energy games like catching a potato on a fork, defrosting frozen T-shirts, and dodging falling yoga balls, 99 To Beat is shaping up to be an exciting – albeit slightly risky – addition to ITV’s prime-time schedule, reports the Mirror.
Despite the unforeseen injury, the brothers maintain that the games are simple for anyone to participate in.
“The beauty of this game is that anyone can play it – whether you’re an 18-year-old guy or an 80-year-old woman,” says Ryan.
The bros, famed for their cheeky banter and competitive edge, have taken to their new gig as game show hosts like ducks to water, serving up a dose of sibling rivalry that could give telly favourites Ant and Dec a run for their money.
As the stakes get higher and contestants drop like flies, telly addicts should brace themselves for a rollercoaster of surprises, jaw-dropping plot twists, and fingers crossed, less trips and falls. In this eight-episode run with a hefty £25,000 on the line, Adam and Ryan promise it’s going to be a great watch, adding: “It’s like a squid game vibe.”
