Katherine Ryan has claimed that a “very famous, rich and powerful” comedian once flaunted a racy video of himself engaged in an adult act while he was on set with other stars
Katherine Ryan has called out sexual misconduct in the comedy industry after revealing her experience.
The star spoke on the Nip Tuck podcast and claimed that a male comedian once flaunted a sexually explicit video of himself having intercourse with a woman while on set.
She said: “I’ve been in green rooms [with] very famous male comedians. One male comedian in particular. I will say he’s not British.”
“He was very famous, very rich, very powerful, and he was in a room on a big show.” Ryan explained that “a young female comedian” was “next to him”.
She continued: “He was with all the lads, showing pictures and videos on his phone that he had taken of himself having s** with women. So, like, really intimate photos, intimate videos and he was showing them. His p**** was in a lot of these videos.”
Katherine said that the female comedian came to her for support and “felt very uncomfortable,” later entering her dressing room to say: “Oh, I didn’t like him showing me that.”
“Stuff like that and being a minority in that situation, which female comedians, especially when I was starting out, were always minorities.”
“In every green room, every dressing room, there are things we can’t do that the boys can do. We can’t take a night bus. We can’t sleep on the floor with like, four other comedians starting out a lot of times. We have children that we have to look after, and then we get fans who, like, could kill us.”
Katherine has previously discussed her “scary” experiences with male fans and even revealed that she was followed home after her comedy gigs.
She told Good Housekeeping UK about the “weird” incidents that happened “when she started doing television”.
“I had this following of very strange lone-wolf men… Before I had a tour manager, they’d follow me on to the train and keep talking to me.”
“I was trying to be polite and create a boundary, but some of those interactions were scary.”
Katherine has also clarified that “no-one has tried anything weird with her” because she thinks she is “probably very scary”. The comedian also made it very clear that she is “not victim blaming”.
“I’ve been lucky, in part, I think, because of the guys I came up with – Joe Lycett, Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are just really, really good guys.”
